In response to Mathew Gillings letter regarding the McDonald’s application and the need to get back to basics (Postbag, May 1) it would be of advantage to examine some of those basics.

Whilst visiting the North of England we decided to visit old family graves in the graveyard at St. Mary in the Wood Church.

I note that through your letters column Gillian Tate is calling for volunteers for the Morley Litter Group and on the television that Leeds City Council is to employ a security company to begin issuing fixed penalty notices for litter offences and failure to ‘pick up’ after a dog.

LETTERS: Stop Tingley MacDonald’s? No, let’s not!
As plans for the construction of a new McDonald’s at Tingley roundabout continue to be met with fierce opposition by some members of the local community, perhaps we need to stop looking for excuses and go back to basics.
