Students learn the art of work
STUDENTS got some first hand experience of how to make careers for themselves in the performing arts during a special day-long World of Work event.
Northern Ballet and hotly tipped new girl band Parade visited Rodillian High School, along with representatives from the West Yorkshire Playhouse, to help all those interested jobs in the arts.
The event was aimed at informing students of the various roles available in the performing arts arena, from performing, stage management, script writing, composing, choreographing, marketing, finance, publicity and carpentry.
Over 100 students from years 10-13 studying performing arts, music and drama attended the workshops.
Northern Ballet, The Carriageworks Theatre in Leeds, Phoenix Dance Theatre, Leeds Grand Theatre and the West Yorkshire Playhouse all sent reprentatives to give out advice and talk about their careers.
During the afternoon session girl band Parade, who are due to tour with X Factor winner Alexandra Burke next year, performed for year nine students and answered questions about how they got their record deal and the music industry in general.
Nicoline Harrington, Director of Specialism at Rodillian School, said: “It is vitally important that we prepare students for life and the world of work.
“We are not merely an exam factory, we provide practical life enhancing experiences to equip our students for their future.”
