LETTERS: Are our politicians really qualifed?

What has always amazed me is local councillors and members of parliament need no qualification to become a councillor or member of parliament - or even a minister.Very few have studied politics and have no qualifications in politics.

A private soldier in the infantry must pass an entrance test and basic training to be posted to his battalion.
If they do not pass, they get another chance and if they do not pass that they are dismissed from the Army.
Often those working for our councillors and MPs are better qualified in their field than those they work for. It just seems crazy these people need no qualifications.
For example, the man running the country’s finances, George Osborne, only has a degree in modern history.
