THE reigning "Queen of Folk" is set to do her bit for charity with a benefit gig in Leeds this month.
Eliza Carthy will play an intimate show with her band at the Brudenell Social Club Club, on Friday, September 18 with proceeds going to the Mr Kite Benefit Fund, which has so far raised almost £60,000 for good causes through charity shows in the north of England.

Support is from Aidan and Abettin and tickets are available now at £15 from Jumbo Records, online at WeGot Tickets or See Tickets or by ringing 0113 2455570.

Described by Q Magazine as "a gloriously natural singer", and "seriously impressive" by the Telegraph, Eliza is a pioneering figure regarded as one of the most impressive and engaging performers of her generation.

The twice Mercury Prize-nominated singer-songwriter is the winner of unrivalled seven BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards. Her 17 year career has also seen her perform and record with a diverse array of artists, including legendary parents Martin Carthy and Norma Waterson, Paul Weller, Billy Bragg, Nick Cave, Joan Baez and Rufus and Martha Wainwright.

Though the Yorkshire-born and now Nottinghamshire-based Eliza is fearless, colourful and maverick in the best tradition of English songwriters, she is also one of the key figures to have revitalised interest in traditional folk music in recent years, making it relevant to new audiences and capturing the most hardened dissenters with intelligent and boundary-crossing performances.
