THE first batch of names have been announced to appear at Leeds' newest major music venue.
Set to open this autumn on the site of the former and much loved Town and Country Club on Cookridge Street, the Leeds Academy is expected to be an exciting addition to gig venues in the city.

It will follow in the footsteps of a number of Carling Academies which have sprung up round the country and is set to bring acts to Leeds that otherwise may have missed the city in recent years because of the lack of a suitable venue capable of hosting more than 2,000 people.

Acts already announced to appear include band of the moment Pendulum, rising stars The Courteeners, Scouting For Girls and Foals while old favourites James and Billy Bragg will play their first headlining Leeds gigs for a decade and the From The Jam and The Stranglers will be reigniting the old punk flame.

The full list is:October 9: Foals; October 17: The Courteeners; October 23: Delirious?; October 26: Hot Chip; October 30: Cascada; November 4: The Stranglers; November 5: MGMT; November 18: Scouting for Girls; November 20: Billy Bragg; December 2: Pendulum; December 6: From the Jam; December 11: James; December 13: The Saw Doctors; December 19: Complete Stone Roses.

Tickets are available from Crash Records in Leeds or Jumbo Records.
