BRITAIN'S most successful black recording star is heading for Batley's Frontier Club this autumn.
With more than 30 million records sold, Billy Ocean is a well respected figure. He's got a new album coming out - his first for 15 years - and will be promoting it across the country, arriving in Batley on Thursday, October 23.
Billy got his first break when he signed to GTO records for who his second single was the Motown-ish Love Really Hurts Without You which reached number two in the UK charts and number 12 in the US.
More big hits followed with the likes of Love on Delivery, Stop Me and Red Light Spells Danger before a change of label and a move to Jive Records provided instant success with the million selling American number one single Caribbean Queen – for which Billy won a Grammy for best R&B Vocal.
Loverboy and Suddenly continued the run of success and he performed on the American half of Live Aid. The Love Zone album proved his most successful long player after its release in 1986 and another memorable hit followed in When The Going Gets Tough. In the US, there were two more number one singles with There'll Be Sad Songs (To Make You Cry) and Get Outta my Dreams; Get into my Car.
With a young family at home, Billy took a break, but now he's back on the scene and will release his first album for 15 years - Live Forever - in September. For ticket details for the Frontier show, contact the box office on 01924 442122.
