THE world premiere of a stage show based on the life and music of the now reclusive sixties singer Kathy Kirby is featured at the City Varieties in Leeds this week.
The amazing story has been brought to life by Yorkshire company Mediaworld and for one night only, on Friday (May 9), it will be told at the famous Leeds theatre.

The highest paid girl singer of the swinging sixties, Kathy had a remarkable rise to
stardom and an equally remarkable fall from grace as disaster after disaster struck the star who was hailed as "the golden girl of pop" and Britain's answer to Marilyn Monroe.

Her profile was raised again in 2005 with the launch of her official website at www.kathykirby.co.uk and an enormous world-wide fan base (which had stayed loyal to the singer who now lives reclusively in her London flat) became active online.

Fans e-mail daily to find out more about this remarkable personality, and following an acclaimed biography of her story "Secrets, Loves and Lip Gloss" this show was born out
of sheer demand to hear her story and music.

The star of this show is Suzi Jari who has already played the young Dusty Springfield on the London stage and who brings alive again the music, the drama and the poignancy of the Kathy Kirby story. Produced and directed by writer and journalist Graham Smith of Mediaworld, the show is presented by the leading agency Johnny Mans Productions.

"It seems appropriate that the show is to premiere in Leeds," said Graham.

"Kathy's life began to fall apart when her manager and mentor Bert Ambrose died in Leeds in 1971. At the time her boyfriend was a Leeds businessman. Now the wheel has turned full circle and her story returns to the city which was such a focal point in this amazing story."

Tickets for Secret Love are £12.50 and £14.50 and available online from www.cityvarieties.co.uk or by ringing 08456 441 881.
