"The Messenjah" Luciano has been announced as the headline act for this year's Leeds Reggae Concert on Sunday.
The Jamaican superstar has been confirmed as the main performer at what is the biggest free black music event in Europe.
Born in Davey Town, Jamaica, Luciano burst on to the scene in the early 1990s and quickly earned an international following fo
r his intelligent lyrics and a spiritual and positive approach to reggae's roots.
His 2005 album
Jah Words cemented his place as one of Jamaica's biggest reggae artists and his subsequent works
Child of a King and
Revelation Time added to the esteem in which he is held.
Luciano will be backed up on the bill by British soul star Omar.
A former member of the Kent Youth Orchestra, Omar has been making music for over 20 years, with his breakthrough single
There's Nothing Like This in the early 1990s the spark for a stellar career as a composer, arranger and vocalist.
Former MOBO winner Sway will also be appearing at Potternewton Park.
The British hip hop rapper and producer has enjoyed great success since launching his solo career in 2003, with his debut album
This Is My Demo helping him win the much-coveted MOBO award for Best Hip-Hop Act in 2005, beating American stars 50 Cent and The Game who were also nominated. The album was also nominated for the prestigious Mercury Music Prize in 2006.
These star names will be supported by bashment superstar Busy Signal and a wealth of local music talent covering an eclectic mix of styles from reggae, rap, hip hop and dance hall to r'n'b and gospel music.
The event which is now in its 22nd year will also include stalls selling traditional Caribbean food and drink as well as arts and crafts.
The Leeds Reggae Concert will be held in Potternewton Park in Chapeltown on Sunday, August 24, from noon - 8pm.
