MORLEY will have the distinction of hosting the opening event of this year's Leeds Best of Brass Season.
The award-winning Fodens Richardson Band will perform at the event, which is hosted by Mike Meadmore and acclaimed as the finest series of brass band concerts in the world.
The 2008/09 season opens at Morley Town Hall on Saturday, October 4 with
the band which has, over the years, maintained its position as one of the country's best.
They were BBC Band of the Year (1990 and 1992), European Champions (1992), All England Masters Champions (1990, 1991, 1994 and 1995) and was the first British band to win the Swiss Open Championships.
In 2006 they became the first inaugural English National Champions. 2007 was also a very successful year with a victory at the North West Area Championship for a record-breaking 14th time and being crowned the International Master Champions.
The band has made history again by winning this year's North West Regional Championships, completing a hat trick of wins in 2006, 2007 and 2008 and making it the most successful band ever to compete at the contest.
The programme for October 4 includes Roman Carnival by Berlioz, Galaxies by Carl Davies, Langford's Famous British Marches and The New Grandfather's Clock by Fernie. There will also be the opportunity to hear Tara's Theme from Gone with the Wind by Max Steiner.
Tickets are priced £11 (concessions £9) and are available from City Centre Box Office on 0113 224 3801 or online at www.leedsconcertseason.com
