COMEDIAN Josie Lawrence will be starring in a spy thriller at the West Yorkshire Playhouse from May 1 to 24.
She will take the title role in a revival of Tom Stoppard’s cunning theatrical masterpiece, Hapgood.

A co-production with Birmingham Repertory Theatre, this production directed by Rachel Kavanaugh is the first in the UK since the play’s original premiere in 1988.

Josie Lawrence plays the spymaster Hapgood who is tasked with discovering the source of a leak of vital information to the Russians.

With only a former Russian spy and a suspected double-crossing member of her team in the frame, the mission looks set to be brought to a quick conclusion.

But will Hapgood’s elaborate scheme to expose the traitor be a success, or is there more to it than meets the eye?

With Stoppard’s trademark style and brilliant wordplay, Hapgood is guaranteed to keep audiences guessing to the very end

Although Josie is well known for comedy, having been a member of the Comedy Store Players for 20 years and made many appearances on Whose Line is it Anyway?, she has played many leading roles on stage including in The King and I at the London Palladium, Much Ado About Nothing at the Royal Exchange and Moll Flanders at the Lyric Hammersmith.

Tickets can be booked by calling (0113) 213 7700.
