Book festival opens

THE Leeds Big Bookend festival opens this weekend at The Carriageworks Theatre in Leeds.

Billed as a ”rock festival for words”, it is the first time the city centre has hosted a literary festival.

The festival will be opened on Saturday by crime writer Peter James and closes on Sunday night with Joanne Harris, the author of Chocolat.

In between there will be appearances by Cathy Cassidy, Anthony McGowan, James Fearnley and Simon Jenkins, to name but a few.
