WOODKIRK High Specialist Science School has acclaimed its "outstanding" GCSE results, the best in its 50-year history.
Sevety-one per cent of year 11 students achieved five or more A* to C grades and 61 per cent were awarded a minimum of 5A* to C grades including English and mathematics - almost 10 per cent up on last year.

Head Jonathan White said he was immensely proud of the students and teachers who worked so hard to achieve the results.

"Thursday morning, when the students collected their results, was brilliant," he said.

"To see the sheer delight on the face of the young people is one of the best parts of my job. I would like to congratulate all who have shown such dedication, over the last year in particular - pupils, their families and tutors - well done!".

The school is expecting record numbers to return in September to continue their education in the sixth form.
