ALL the fun of the fair will be in town this weekend with the return of the Morley Feast.
Traditionally Morley Feast was when all the mills would shut down for a week in August and much of the population of Morley took a much-needed holiday.

Town centre manager Peter Mudge said: "When the mills shut down, people would all go to Blackpo
ol, or stay here if they couldn't afford to go, and there would be lots to do in the town."

Although the mills are mostly gone and the old feast ground on Bruntcliffe Lane has long since been built on, the idea of having a summer fair and a week of festivities has been revived.

Mr Mudge added: "The idea of people staying in the town and enjoying themselves holds good."

There will be a fun fair in Scatcherd Park from Friday to Sunday, the Morley Chamber of Trade will join in with a collection of stalls on Saturday and the following weekend there will be a gala at Morley Rugby Club.

Mr Mudge added: "We have put together the bare bones of the feast, but the sky is the limit.

"It is now up to community groups to get on board and arrange their own activities and events and if there are 20 events happening in town on Saturday that would be great, we can have our own Edinburgh Festival."

Any community groups wanting advice on organising their own Morley Feast events in the future should contact Peter Mudge on 07890 272 510.
