HOUSEHOLDERS due to have their bins emptied today (Wednesday) are in for disappointment as binmen take part in a third one-day strike.
The industrial action involves members of the General and Municipal Workers' Union, the GMB, who are in a dispute with Leeds City Council over pay cuts.
The GMB have been working to rule since April 24 and organised two strikes on April 23 and May
1.
The dispute came to a head when GMB members from Leeds City Council's refuse and street cleansing team voted 78.5 per cent in favour of strikes after the council proposed pay cuts of £6,000 and refused to lift the wages of female employees.
A total of 95.5 per cent also voted to work to rule, taking all lunch breaks and working to the exact hours of their contract.
A council spokesman said: "We are working hard to minimise the problems caused by industrial action, particularly on refuse collection, and are still aiming to collect both refuse and recycling on the scheduled collection day.
"We are sorry to say however that there has been an effect on the services that we want to provide to you, and there will be further disruption on May 8."
