ROTARIANS in Morley are appealing for local businesses to provide sponsorship for an event they are planning in May.
On Sunday, May 11, Morley Rotary Club and Morley Murals Committee will be unveiling two new stone sculptures outside Morley Town Hall.
The sculptures, one of a miner and the other of a weaver, have been created by sculptor Melanie Wilkes to commemorate the industries and the people who helped make Morley great.
Last year the Rotary Club offered to raise funds to pay for the Morley Miner and as part of this they are organising a competition linked to the Morley Heritage Trail.
The trail was set up last year to encourage visitors and locals to get to know the area and its history better.
Richard Todd, of Morley Rotary Club, hopes to find 20 companies to pay £50 each to sponsor the 20 points of interest highlighted by the trail.
In return, each company will receive five family tickets to enter the Morley Heritage Trail competition on May 11 and will get their name on its literature.
The sponsorship will help pay for competition prizes.
On May 11 visitors to the town will be challenged to try out the heritage trail themselves and enter the competition, answering 20 questions about what they saw and learned on their walk.
Entry will cost £5 for families and £3 for individuals and all the money raised will help pay for the Morley Miner sculpture.
Businesses wanting to sponsor the competition should contact Mr Todd on 253 2023 or 07721 615339.
