A VETERAN Second World War tank commander has died at his home on the Isle of Man at the age of 93.
Major Gordon Peace Bradley was the last commanding officer of the 51st (Leeds Rifles) Royal Tank Regiment TA which was formed in Morley.

The 51 RTR was formed at Morley Drill Hall on June 1, 1939.

Major Bradley joined as a junior engineer officer and remained with “five one” throughout its service at home and in campagins in North Africa and Italy.

He was appointed adjutant and subsequently became second in command.

He became the commanding officer at the end of the war when he was given the task of de-mobilising the regiment.

Major Bradley was buried alongside his wife, Kay, in Kent Maughord Parish Church. The family flowers were in the regimental colours with the regimental motto, Through the mud and the blood to the green fields beyond.

He was a strong supporter of the Leeds Rifles Comrades Association and is survived by two daughters.
