ELVIS will be in the building helping raise money for injured servicemen next month.
Former RAF veteran Micky Vegas, who delights audiences with his tribute act to The King, will be joined by lots of other tribute artistes at Batley Variety Club for the charity family concert in aid of the Help for Heroes fund on Sunday, July 26.
He will be leading an all 'star' cast of Neil Diamond, Buddy Holly, Robbie Williams, Billy Fury, Shirley Bassey, Shakin' Stevens, Karen Carpenter, Katherine Jenkins, The Beatles, The Rat Pack and Roy Orbison.
Lending his support to the concert will be ex-serviceman Simon Brown from Morley, a former corporal with the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers, who was left partially sighted after he was shot in Iraq in December 2006.
He had travelled to Basra to rescue six colleagues whose vehicle had broken down and was preparing to withdraw from the area when he was hit by sniper fire.
Simon is committed to helping other ex-service personnel and has worked for service charities including Help the Heroes.
Concert organiser Micky Vegas – aka Mick Goodwill – is a former Huddersfield lad who joined the RAF at 16. He served in the forces for 16 years before becoming a contract engineer for the aviation industry.
His passion for music began when he sang karaoke and at parties, and two years ago he began his Elvis tribute act.
"I got into appreciating Elvis music through my mum, who was a huge fan, and she gave me all her old records," said Mick.
"Then I heard about the Help for Heroes campaign to support our wounded servicemen and wanted to help," he said.
"I do a lot of charity concerts – having raised more than £10,000 so far – but this was one I just knew I wanted to so something for. I approached the Frontier and was delighted when they said they wanted to help."
Micky has brought together friends and colleagues who all perform tribute acts.
"The concert will be aimed at families, so we are holding it on a Sunday afternoon, so everyone can enjoy it – there will even be food available," he said.
Tickets are £10 for adults and £5 for under 16s and seniors, available from the box office on 01924 442122. Further details from www.batleyfrontier.co.uk or www.myelvistribute.co.uk
