TICKETS are now on sale for the inaugural Morley Literature Festival to be held at the end of September.
The festival is being held over the weekend of September 29 and 30 and will mark the centenary of Morley Library.
Each day of the festival will culminate with two special evening performances in Morley Town Hall.
Friday night will be Ian McMillan's "Big Family Show" and on the Saturday evening Gervase Phinn will present "The School Inspector Calls".
There will also be a series of workshop sessions throughout Saturday.
Events held on Saturday will include a puppet theatre production by freehand theatre company called Little Red You Know Who, a sound archive and vox pop sessions by Sonic City and workshops from local authors and storytellers such as Emma Barnes, author of the award-winning Jessica Hebblethwaite stories and Rebecca L Royle, who published her first book Lucy's Monster in April 2006.
The Saturday afternoon programme will end with a poetry competition being run by Joseph Priestley College and prizes being presented by the Mayor of Morley.
All workshop events on Saturday are free.
Chairman of the Festival Committee, Coun Judith Elliott, said she was delighted that plans were coming to fruition.
"We started out earlier in the year not knowing how to set about it. Everyone has been marvellous and everyone we have contacted has come on board.
"The expertise of everyone involved has been such that the plan has now come together," she said.
"It looks as if we are going to have an absolutely marvellous weekend."
Coun Elliott said it was good that the festival would be encouraging reading across every age range in the town.
"I'm pleased that we are encouraging reading across all age range groups and we are holding a poetry competition which is also wonderful.
"We want to promote reading and things literary, that's what we are aiming to do, but at the same time this wil be an advertisement for the town.
"The knock-on effect could be marvellous.
"The gain for Morley and Morley people of all ages will be tremendous.
"This is something that will put Morley on the map yet again."
The festival has been funded by the Outer South Area Committee, in partnership with Morley Town Council, Morley Observer & Advertiser and Bertram's Books.
Tickets are available for £2 from the Observer & Advertiser offices, Althams Travel, Cuchinas and Manning Stainton, all in Queen Street.
