Five were killed

TWO men were instantly killed when the bell of the number one furnace exploded and fell on the engine house, causing red hot iron to rain down on the workmen.
David Nicholson, 29, of Bright Street, East Ardsley and William Keenan, of Albion Buildings, East Ardsley were both 'fillers' and were standing on a narrow staging at the top of the furnace.

George Billings, 48, of Croften Terrace, Morley, Alfred Warren, 26, of Woodhouse Lane, East Ardsley and Fred Paver, 26, of Allison's Buildings, East Ardsley, later died from their injuries.

The 13 listed as seriously injured were:

Allen Noble, 51, from Allison's Buildings; George Ward, 47, from Stoney Lane; Arthur Simcoe, 23, from Allison's Buildings; Arthur Tyldesley of Oxford Street; F Smith, all East Ardsley; John Wiseall, 40, of Oakley Street, Thorpe; John McDermott from Hunslet; James Dilley; F Bullock; T Maskell; T Link and W Stanley. Another of the injured was John Billings, 23, son of George Billings.
