A HEALTHY dose of nostalgia is on offer at Morley Town Hall this Friday at an event combining old film footage of Yorkshire life and songs inspired by Morley's rich history.
Yorkshire Film and Folk, a new selection of rarely seen film from the Yorkshire Film archive, will be shown between performances by Morley born folk singer Colin Holt and his band.

The event, organised by the Morley Community Archive Group, will also see the launch of a new book and a folk album.

Colin, who now lives in Teesside but still has family in Morley, will be performing songs from his album Reminiscence Deftly Trips which was inspired by his childhood and by Morley's history.

He said: "We have spent a year on this project, getting it together and doing all the research and I am pretty happy with the album and will be very interested to see how it goes down in Morley.

"This is a project that I have had in my head a while now.

"I think as you get older you begin to look back on your childhood quite a bit and I realised last time I visited how much it has altered and that the old places we used to go have all gone.

"I just thought that trying to put that down for generations to come was something I wanted to do."

As well as drawing on his own experiences he looked for inspiration to the area's history, discovering things he had never been taught at school such as the Farnley Wood Plot which was hatched during the English Civil War.

The album will be on sale on Friday for the special price of £5.

Lyrics and downloads are also available on the internet at www.myspace.com/thecolinholtband

Also to be launched at the event is a booklet to accompany The Morley Heritage Trail, a walking route around Morley which was created last year to highlight the town's heritage.

A guide to the trail including snippets about interesting people and places was printed last year but this booklet, The Morley Heritage Trail – A Guide to Morley's Past in the Present, includes much more information along with photographs of old Morley.

Following Friday's event the booklet will be available from the Morley Community Archive's own website www.morleyarchives.ik
Yorkshire Film and Folk will be held in Morley Town Hall at 2.30pm and 7.30pm and tickets costing £2, are available from Althams Travel, via the website www.morleyarchives.ik.uk or via the post using forms available at Morley Library.
