COUSIN, BECKIE GLEDHILL XXAFTER hearing the tragic news yesterday, I think Britannia Road's speed limit should be reduced to 30mph, or speed cameras should be erected.
The road is a main walkway for schoolchildren going to either Woodkirk or Morley High and even Fountain Primary. The limit should have been set years ago, it should not take a tragic incident like this to determine whether there should be safety restrictions. My heart goes out to her family.
NIKKI O'BRIENHOW many more children have to die before something is done – not only children but anyone in general?
MARIA BLACKBURN MY daughter was her friend. It is so sad that this can happen when you think your child is safe while walking to school.
There should be slower speed restrictions on that road, traffic cameras or traffic calming put into place – lots of people drive far too fast on that road.
My heart goes out to her family at this terrible time and both myself and Melissa send our deepest sympathy to them all.
SHARON BERRY AND MELISSA BERRY YES, something should be done, there are too many fatal accidents on that road.
CHRISTINE CHILDSI FEEL deep shock at the death of young Hannah, and would like to express my condolences to her family for their very sad loss.
I wish to take advantage of this opportunity to express a view about traffic calming since I have felt for some time that traffic moves too fast along Britannia Road. I can hear traffic moving at high speeds throughout the day and night, often flouting the speed limit and oblivious to the risks of multiple junctions feeding into this section of the artery. In addition many pedestrians of all ages must have to risk crossing Britannia Road at peak times to access Morley facilities.
I would strongly support the installation of traffic calming measures in this residential area to reduce the chances of further loss of precious life.
DILYS HETHERINGTON
Spencer Avenue, MorleyJust a few words for a young girl with her life ahead of her.
My heart goes out to her parents, family and friends. I can't stop thinking about Hannah, having a son myself it makes you realise you must make the most of every moment.
LOVE, A CARING PARENTIT was so sad seeing you laying there on Monday morning and worse still knowing there was nothing I could do. This should never have happened.
As said by others, the traffic needs calming down on this road and it's time we did something about it. I have started a petition up so if anyone is reading this the petition is in the post office for you to sign.
There will also be another one in the High Street shop and various shops around town. So please, please sign it and let's get something done so this does not happen again.
It's so sad it has to take something like this for us to take action, this should have been done before this happened, but we can think about if onlys now. Let's get that road restricted once and for all
HELEN (HARROPS RESIDENT) I DON'T think speed cameras are the way to go personally, they don't work. If they did then the government wouldn't be raking in so much money from them. They should make the road into a single lane road so that you don't get the overtaking issues as much, then put the railings up along the side to protect the pedestrians.
The is only one lane of traffic coming from either direction so why the need for two lanes?
BRENDAN CHADWICK, MORLEYIT is tragic that someone has lost their life and even more so that she was so young.
Your report is not clear but implies she was walking on the pavement so no matter how many speed cameras are installed it would not have changed the outcome or given any extra protection.
The idea of another pedestrian crossing perhaps deserves consideration but as a motorist I regularly see people crossing busy roads within yards of a safe place.
Is the answer to fence off the pavement to give protection for the pedestrian from the motorist and vice versa so that people have to use proper pedestrian crossings?
D PRESTONWHY does there always have to be a death before something is done about dangerous driving on busy roads?
I walk my dog up and down Britannia Road every morning and afternoon and the things I see beggars belief. Drivers exceeding the speed limit, drivers trying to cut in as the road narrows to one lane, drivers on mobile phones and drivers travelling from the Wakefield direction turning left onto Howley Park industrial estate without reducing their speed sufficiently and ending up on the wrong side of the road as they take the bend.
Yes I think there should be speed cameras and also CCTV, as there is at Tingley Bar.
GLYNNE WATSONI AM devastated to hear of Hannah's death. Something needs to be done, sooner rather than later.
Are the council going to be proactive and sort this road out or are they going to be reactive and wait for the next road accident?
Hannah went too young too soon, we owe this to her family to prevent any further fatalities. Please act now. Lives are far more important than the costs involved to reduce the speed, making the road single carriage way or even having speed cameras.
I'm sure there are plenty of resolutions. Let's not allow Hannah's death go by without making some drastic changes in this very dangerous road.
SARAH ROONEY (Parent of child who is at Morley High and a child at Fountain Primary) I was just a passer by on the morning of the accident and although I never knew you, you have touched my heart.
You have not been far from my thoughts every day and I feel shocked by the tragic loss of life. My heart truly goes out to your parents, family and friends to whom I send my deepest sympathies.
God Bless You Hannah.
