PEDESTRIANS and drivers had a narrow escape when scaffolding collapsed into Peel Street, Morley, on Tuesday lunchtime.
Scaffolding several storeys high was blown off an old mill building, which is being converted to flats, on the corner of Peel Street and Commercial Street.

Steel poles and planks were sent crashing into the street, smashing through the windscreen of a parked car.

One witness, who asked not to be named, said he had been past soon after it happened and had been grateful no-one had been hurt as his wife and children use that route into town three times a week.

Police blocked off part of Peel Street and part of Commercial Street, redirecting traffic round the town centre.

Although an ambulance was called there were no reported injuries.
