A TINGLEY woman jailed for allowing her ex-husband to launder profits from his MOT scam through her bank account has had her sentence cut.
The Criminal Appeal Court ruled the two-year sentence imposed on Julie Mirzabegi, 51, of Broadcroft Chase, in January was too high and cut it to 15 months.

She had been convicted of assisting Roobik Mirzabegi, 51, of Old Lane, Beeston, to obtain the benefit of criminal conduct and obtaining services by deception.

Roobik Mirzabegi was jailed for four years for a conspiracy that the trial heard netted him £2 million over 13 years.

MOT certificates were issued to cars at garages in Beeston and Middleton that were never tested.

A total of 11 others were sentenced for their part in the fraud, which involved the issuing of 23,000 bogus MOT certificates between 2002 and 2005 along.

A total of £230,000 from the operation passed through Mrs Mirzabegi’s bank account.

Lawyers argued Mirzabegi’s sentence was too high compared with those imposed on others involved.
