THE family and friends of a much-loved Morley man who lost his fight against a brain tumour a year ago filled Bruntcliffe WMC at a race night held in his memory.
The Garry Mabbett Tribute Fund was set up last year by Garry's wife Christine and their two sons, Lee and Paul, with the hope of raising money for Wheatfields Hospice through a number of fundraising events.

The race night was held on Friday and ev
ery seat was filled with people showing their support for the fund.

Christine said: "It was a wonderful evening and the amount of people who attended was absolutely amazing. There were friends old and new and people who I had never met before came along to support the event on the first anniversary of Garry's death.

"The night finished with a quiz and then a karaoke and what a memorable night it was. My son, Paul finished off the night with a tribute song for Garry, New York, New York. Garry will always be remembered for this song as he sang his version when we were away on a family holiday in Benidorm."

Altogether the night raised £903, taking the total to date for Wheatfields to £7,467.

Christine said she would like to thank Clickappeal.co.uk, CD Robinson, Alternative Windows and Britannia Services for sponsoring the races, Steve and Paula from Ladbrokes for giving up their evening to take customer 'bets', Anne and Dave at Bruntcliffe WMC for hosting the event and to Greggs in Morley for supplying their pasties and sausage rolls for the buffet.

"Also a big thank you to everyone who came along on the night and supported the event, " she said.

The next event will be a memorial concert with a live band and special guest held at the Hotel Metropole in Leeds on Saturday, September 6. Admission is by ticket only, which is £15 and includes a supper. Tickets are available by calling 07534 815567.
