Morley cemetery to have worker on site
MORLEY Cemetery will again have a grounds maintenance worker based on the site over the summer to keep it the best possible condition.
The move will be welcomed by those with loved ones buried in the cemetery, which has been hit by vandalism and littering in the past.
The Observer and Advertiser has reported several incidents of damage and general neglect over the years and it is hoped that this move, introduced by Leeds City Council, will ensure the cemetery is kept ion the best condition possible.
As well as improving the cemetery the grounds worker will be focusing on maintaining the cemetery's war graves.
Coun Judith Elliott (MBI, Morley South) said she was delighted with the news.
"Many local residents, who have their loved ones buried there, have raised their concerns about the condition of the cemetery," she said.
"Although we have seen some improvements over the last few years, this is the boost we need to improve things further.
A Leeds City Council Spokesman said: "During the growing season, there will be a grounds maintenance worker at Morley Cemetery.
"We had a worker doing the same role last year and found it very helpful.
"All our cemetery staff keep aware of any vandalism or anti-social behaviour taking place, and take appropriate action."
