A YOUNG poet from Tingley has finished top of the league in a national competition aimed at helping kick racism out of sport.
Aidan Jones, 11, won top prize for his age group in the Show Racism the Red Card poetry competition.

Aidan enterered his poem, Sport For All, as part of Westerton Primary School's work with the Stephen Lawrence Charter Award.

He was thrilled to be to be told he'd won the national prize for his age group and even more excited when he learned of his prize.

Arsenal fanatic Aidan spent the day at the club's impressive new Emirates Stadium in London where he was presented with signed Arsenal and England shirts by one of his heroes, Theo Walcott.

He also met England and Arsenal Ladies captain Faye White and received a goody bag and certificate.

Theo and club officials then gave lucky Aidan a tour of the stadium.

Head of Westerton Primary Jim Reid said it was a lucky coincidence that Aidan was an Arsenal fan.

"We're really proud that Aidan has won this," he said.

"The Morley schools have taken a real stance against racism and this is a brilliant achievement."
