A CELEBRATORY afternoon was held to mark the 10th anniversary of a Morley residents' group.
Members of Elmfield and Bridge Street Residents' Association held a special anniversary party at St Paul's Church Hall to celebrate 10 years of success.

The group was formed by Jean Lancaster in 1998 after residents of Elmfield Court were unable to get satisfactory repairs done to their properties.

Mrs Lancaster said; "We opened the group up to all residents stretching from the Albion pub to Tingley Bar Fisheries, representing properties along Bridge Street and all the roads leading off.

"This was a lot of hard work as we had to knock on every door to ask people if they were willing to join us."

The group's first full meeting was held in Elmfield Primary School with matters soon solved with the help of local and town councillors.

The group has undertaken lots of work since, including new security lighting inside and outside flats, a new door security system and clean-up days. Work on the lights at Tingley Bar was helped by meeting with councillors, as were road markings on Bridge Street.

Mrs Lancaster said: "One of our best achievements was the zebra crossing outside Elmfield Primary School, but unfortunately the school closed just as we got it in place.

"We have had lots of successes and the latest thing we are doing is making sure the park is finished and kept up to."
