AN inquest has been opened into the death of a Thorpe motorcyclist who died in an accident in Wakefield.
John Wayne Dowson, 54, of Winthorpe Crescent, died on August 22 in the accident on Doncaster Road, close to Chantry Bridge, around 3.30pm.
Mr Dowson, who worked for Warburtons in Normanton, was riding a maroon-coloured Suzuki and travelling in the direction of the Wakefield Wildcats' stadium when his bike was in collision with an HGV travelling in the same direction.
A 37-year-old man from Barnsley was arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. He has since been released by police and no-one has been charged in connection with the incident.
An inquest, opened at Wakefield Coroner's Court on Friday, heard that on the day he died Mr Dowson had taken his motorcycle to a garage to be repaired and had joined friends in Hemsworth.
The accident happened later that afternoon.
He lived with his long term partner Joanne Stevens and their two-year-old son.
Police have appealed for witnesses to call 0845 6060606.
