A REWARD of £300 has been offered for information leading to the conviction of vandals who defaced Morley Leisure Centre.
A graffiti 'tag' name was sprayed six feet high on the wall of the centre.

It has now been cleaned off but it was the worst example of a spate of vandalism blighting the town.

Advertising boards around Windsor Court precinct, Morrison's car park and the main entrance area of Morley Town Hall have also been targeted by graffiti vandals.

The murals in Beryl Burton Gardens have also been defaced.

In a bid to put a stop to the damage a group of local councillors has now put up a £300 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the "artist" responsible for the leisure centre damage.

Coun Judith Elliott (MBI, Morley South) has put forward the reward, which has come out of party funds, in an attempt to put paid to petty vandalism and yobs acting in an anti-social way.

"The reward will go to anyone who can provide the information we need to make sure this person is successfully prosecuted," she said.

"The information can be given anonymously either to me or directly to the police. We will then make sure vigorous action is taken against this perpetrator.

"We need the co-operation of residents if we are to crack down on this type of criminal damage."

A spokesman for Morley police said this week: "The police will act on any complaints of such damage and anyone who has witnessed any form of vandalism should report it to us."

If you know who is responsible for the Morley Leisure Centre graffiti – or any other vandalism in the area – call Morley police on 2382035.
