A mother of five is having her head shaved at her local pub to raise money for Cancer Research UK this weekend.
Kay Warren, 52, will have her locks cut at the Malt Shovel in Drighlington on Saturday, in the hope of raising a grand total of £1,000 for the charity.
Kay said: “I’m very nervous about it, I’ve never done anything like this before. I’ve lost friends and family members to cancer and I’ve family members who’ve still got it and I don’t think there’s anybody that it doesn’t affect.
“I think it’s such a big thing to lose your hair when you have cancer, especially if you’re a woman, because it makes up a lot of your self-image, so it’s quite a big public statement.”
Kay’s fundraiser is one of a number of activities taking place at the Malt Shovel on Saturday in aid of Cancer Research. Live bands, a cake sale, and the presence of some lively creatures borrowed from Morley Exotic Animal Rescue will provide the day’s entertainment at the pub, on Whitehall Road.
Punters are welcome from 2.30pm.
