An engineer is swapping Morley for Singapore as he takes up a new role as a regional sales manager.
Paul Welsford, 28, has been asked to help increase Flexitallic’s presence and expertise in the South East Asia market. The Cleckheaton-based firm hopes he will be able to develop its business in the region and share best practice and skills with local industry. Mr Welsford, who has spent less than four years with the company, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity to work in one of the most dynamic industrial markets in the world. Singapore has thriving oil and gas and chemical industries, which are sectors in which Flexitallic is internationally-recognised. “Our Singapore partner distributors have enabled local companies to access our range of gaskets. This distributor relationship is essential in helping end-users specify the best products on the market. “My presence will add value to these relationships, particularly in terms of supporting the skills development and safety practices of local engineers.” The company, which manufactures semi-metallic and metallic gaskets, also offers training through its Academy of Joint Integrity. Mr Welsford said: “In the past, we’ve had several enquiries through the Academy of Joint Integrity for training in Singapore. Being based in-country will allow us to fully realise these opportunities to work closely with companies to help develop their safety competencies.” Originally from the Isle of Wight, Mr Welsford first worked at Flexitallic on a placement during his degree in Product Design and Manufacture at Loughborough University. He returned in 2009 as senior production engineer, managed a new manufacturing licensee agreement in Egypt in 2010, supervised the Kammprofile Department and spent a year in Kazakhstan with one of The Flexitallic Group’s gasket manufacturing joint ventures
