Work on a £20m scheme designed to ease congestion on the M62 is under way.

The project – expected to take until the end of the year to complete – aims to relieve congestion.

The work, which is part of a £317m national programme, will include new CCTV cameras and automatic traffic monitoring between junction 30 at Rothwell and junction 32 at Pontefract.

Highways Agency assistant project manager Thomas Howard said: “The new technology will relieve congestion and improve safety on this busy section of motorway while providing drivers with more information.”
