Tesco has been given the go-ahead to transform the former Smithy pub in Westerton Road, Tingley, into a store.
Leeds City Council’s planning department approved Tesco’s application for an extension, renovations, revised parking layout and fencing to the Smithy public house.
A report issued by planning chiefs states that the proposal intends to extend the existing pub, renovate the building and improve the external parking area, all while keeping in with the character and appearance of the existing building.
There are a proposed 15 parking spaces, which will also be redesigned as part of the development.
Following the approval, the supermarket chain has also applied for an ATM cash machine to be installed, lighting to the car park and also for security bollards to be placed at the entrance of the store, which are now being considered.
