More than 20 loans totalling £120,000 have been issued to start-up companies in Morley.

Budding entrepreneurs and businesses have received a boost thanks to the Start Up Loans company. A total of 21 loans worth £120,000 overall have been issued in Morley and Outwood, including The Yorkshire Bridal Shop and cocktail service Mix ‘n’ Twist.

Anne Jackson set up her bridal gown business with her daughter Kitty. The mother and daughter duo identified a gap in the market for an affordable bridal outlet, and also sell prom dresses and accessories. James Abbott, of Mix ‘n’ Twist, provides highly skilled cocktail and flair bartenders and mobile cocktail service for parties and event

Ed Balls MP, who met both the business owners, said: “Start Up Loans have supported thousands of businesses but the ones here in Morley were an impressive group of people – from the new Yorkshire Bridal Shop in Albert Drive to a furniture up-cycling business based out of Tingley, these are all locally grown young entrepreneurs who have taken the plunge and set up their own business.”

Mr Balls also called for cuts to business rates and a British investment bank to boost lending for small businesses.
