A 41-year-old male cyclist died after a collision between a bicycle and a car on Gelderd Road last night.
Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident in Gelderd Road, which occurred at around 6.40pm, when a Rover 45 collided with a cyclist on the A62 near the entrance of a waste management site.
The cyclist received emergency treatment by paramedics but they could not save him.
Det Sgt Carole Greaves of the Major Collision Enquiry Team said: “This collision has occurred during the latter part of the rush hour, yet I am certain there will have been a number of people travelling along the A62 at the time who may hold vital information about the incident.
“I would urge anyone who saw the incident itself, or who saw either the vehicle or pedal cycle before the collision to come forward. Enquiries are ongoing.”
A 29-year-old male has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, and remains in custody.
