East Ardsley’s community gala was officially opened by the village primary school’s retiring headteacher, Jane Wedlinscky.
Mrs Wedlinscky, who has stepped down from her job at East Ardsley Primary School after nine years, was asked by event organisers to do the honour of cutting the ribbon at the gala.
The crowds enjoyed fine weather and gave generously to raise funds for local groups and organisations.
Activities on offer included a dance performance by youngsters from the Deborah Coultish School of Dance, a birds of prey display, and a number of stalls run by local charities, including St Gabriel’s Community Centre.
The gala was also attended by the local councillors for the East Ardsley and Robin Hood ward, Karen Renshaw and Lisa Mulherin, who helped out on the St Gabriel’s stall.
Councillor Renshaw said: “This was another really successful year for the East Ardsley Gala. It was great to see lots of children enjoying themselves and taking part in the wide range of activities on offer. On behalf of the local councillors I want to thank everyone involved in making this such a success.
“It was really good to see so many people coming together. Jane was the perfect person to open the gala, having given so much to the children of the area through her nine years as headteacher of East Ardsley Primary School.
“As ever, it’s brilliant to see our community can come together, enjoy each other’s company and raise some money for local organisations.”
