Six people have now been arrested after a gang armed with machetes stormed a car dealership.
A confrontation took place in the VW showroom on Elland Road at about 9.50am on Thursday between a group of men who were not thought to be armed and several men wielding weapons.
A West Yorkshire Police spokesman said: “Four men initially entered the premises and were followed by several other men in the possession of weapons, believed to be machetes.
“The armed men left the scene in a 4x4 Mitsubishi Shogun vehicle, which was subsequently damaged on steps outside the building and abandoned. The men then made off and nobody was injured.”
Shortly afterwards, a vehicle was stopped by police on Brown Lane East, in Holbeck. Two men, aged 35 and 24, were arrested.
A 39-year-old man was arrested later that day.
Three more men, aged 61, 28, 54, were subsequently arrested following further police enquiries.
Police also found a number of vehicles containing balaclavas, gloves and weapons during searches in the area. All the vehicles have been seized.
The police spokesman added: “Detectives are continuing to establish the full circumstances of the incident and the reasons behind it.”
Any witnesses or anyone with information is asked to contact police on the non emergency number 101 or Crimestoppers in confidence on 0800 555 111.
