A PLEA is being made to dog owners who don’t clean up after their pets in a Morley cemetery.

The plea comes from a woman who found that dog mess had been left around her mum’s grave by irresponsible dog owners in Bruntcliffe Cemetery.

The woman, from Middleton Road, who doesn’t want to be named, said that she visited her mum’s grave last Sunday and found dog faeces around the memorial.

She said: “People walk their dogs in the cemetery and some are obviously not cleaning up the mess.

“All I’m asking is for people to be a bit more responsible and respectful.

“You can buy a poop-a-scoop or bags for a pound from the shop, so there isn’t any excuse for leaving it behind, especially in a cemetery.

“It’s so upsetting. You go visit the grave of someone you have lost and see that people don’t have any respect anymore.

“If it’s not mess being left, it’s flowers being taken. It’s really upsetting.

“If I had not been looking where I was walking I would have stood straight in it. I’m hoping these people who leave it behind realise the upset they are causing.”

The woman, whose father is also buried in the cemetery, said she thinks dogs should be banned from being walked in the cemetery.

“It’s a place where people are at peace and it’s completely disrespectful to have dogs running about and doing their mess on, or near to, the graves.” she said.

“I’m sure if it was happening to their loves ones’ graves they would feel exactly the same way as I do.”
