AN 11-year-old schoolboy has been left devastated after his £300 Christmas present was stolen.

Nathan Ferguson had called into his friend’s house on Kingsway, Drighlington, last Tuesday (January 8) between 4.30pm and 5.30pm, leaving his brand new scooter outside - hidden from view.

Mum Kirsty, of Kingsdale Gardens, said: “There is a path leading up to the door and it’s surrounded by bushes.

“He didn’t want to take it into the house just in case it was wet and muddy, so he left it at the front door.”

Nathan, a Bruntcliffe School pupil, left the house around half an hour later to find the scooter had vanished.

Kirsty said: “It was a present from his grandad and cost £300. His brothers got scooters too, but Nathan’s was the most expensive.

“There were three other scotters that had been left in the garden and easier to see, but they weren’t touched.

“We don’t know if someone had been watching him and saw him leave it or someone might have heard about the kind of scooter he had and how expensive it was.

“We’ve driven around the area seeing if we could spot it, but had no luck.

“It’s bright white and blue and has a couple of little marks on it now - I would recognise it straight away if I saw it.”

Kirsty said she has asked Nathan’s friends and other children in the area to keep their eyes open for it and is now warning other people to be vigilant.

“People need to be aware that this can happen and to keep an eye on your things.

“Nathan is gutted. At £300 it isn’t something that can just be replaced.”

Insp Paul Sullivan, who leads Morley Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “It just goes to show that there are people out there who will steal anything - even kids’ toys.

“We don’t know if it was someone local to the area or someone just passing through who has taken it. It could be just a chancer who was passing by and liked what he saw.”

Anyone who has any information is asked to call police via the non-emergency number 101.
