BREAKING: Teen mum guilty in baby death trial

A teenage mum has been found guilty of causing or allowing the death of her seven-week-old baby.

Jessica Hopkinson, 19, of Ashleigh Avenue, Pontefract, sobbed as the verdict was read out at Leeds Crown Court this afternoon (Monday).

Jurors deliberated for almost ten hours following a four week trial which heard how baby Kristal suffered “catastrophic” injuries to her brain and body before she died.

They are yet to return a verdict on the baby’s father, Lee Davison, 28, who is jointly accused of causing or allowing his daughter’s death.

The jury will reconvene tomorrow morning.
