Campaign out to target Morley’s litter louts
Litter louts and people who allow their dogs to foul footpaths and grassy areas are being targeted in a new campaign.
Morley town centre and the area’s parks are to be the main focus of the crackdown.
The initiative, which will see additional council enforcement officers patrolling the area, is being financed by the Outer South Area Committee.
Coun Shirley Varley, who has voiced support for the campaign, has said a council enforcement team would be out issuing penalty notices to anyone found guilty of littering or allowing their dogs to foul public areas.
“The Enforcement Team will be out issuing penalty notices to those anti-social residents who allow their dogs to foul in parks without picking up their dog’s mess,” she said.
“We are also targeting litter louts in Morley town centre. They will be targeted and fined if they undertake their anti-social activities.”
Enforcement Officers can issue fixed penalty notices for offences.
If the fines are not paid then further action is taken which can include court appearances for offenders.
Coun Varley said: “It is important that we target these individuals and take rigorous action to reduce the problems of dog fouling and littering.”
Dog bins are found in Morley’s parks and fixed penalty notices of £75 are issued to anyone caught not cleaning up after their pet.
People that fail to dispose of dog bags properly can also face additional fines of littering, which carries a separate maximum court penalty of £2,500.
Enforcement officers can also issue on the spot £75 fines to anyone seen littering.
