Leeds man Carl Hegarty is throwing one last hurrah this Saturday as he battles with cancer.
Carl is 56 and was diagnosed with throat and mouth cancer in January this year and doctors have told him he only has three or four months to live.
He is throwing the huge bash to celebrate his life at the Spinning Wheel off Dewsbury Road in Beeston tomorrow (Saturday, April 26).
Carl, who is a familiar face in Morley having drunk regularly in its pubs, said: “It is one final farewell to all my friends and I know it might sound morbid to some but if I am going I want to see who is going to my funeral.”
About 200 people are expected to turn out to support Carl and his two daughters who have helped him organise the event, whcich will be held from 1pm-5pm.
Carl said: “Word has got round and I think I am going to see a lot of people I have not seen for ages. Already a chap who I have not seen in years has been in touch and he is now a DJ so he is going to play from 3pm to 5pm.”
The family have booked a singer to play at the event and that is as much as Carl knows about the party.
He said: “My eldest daughter Victoria is planning a surprise, I grilled her and her sister but they won’t tell me a thing.”
