A Cold Calling Control Zone has been set up to protect the residents of Churwell from unwanted callers.
The zones have been hailed a huge success nationally and have been shown to reduce overall crime in the areas where they have been launched.
Residents in the zone have received strong support from Churwell Action Group, West Yorkshire Trading Standards, Morley Neighbourhood Policing Team and Coun Robert Finnigan who attended Friday’s launch.
Leaflets and stickers have been delivered to each property, signs have been placed at conspicuous places within the zone and a map of and information about the zone is available to view via the West Yorkshire Trading Standards website to ensure businesses have no excuse but to honour the residents’ request not to call.
Lew Beever, from Churwell Action Group, said: “We are really pleased to be part of such a proactive initiative, working in partnership with the Police and Trading Standards to combat this type of criminal activity, helping tenants and residents to feel safer in their homes.”
Streets in the Churwell zone are: Harwill Road, Harwill Avenue, Harwill Approach, Harwill Rise, Harwill Croft, Harwill Grove, Back Green, Spring Gardens, Coteroyd Avenue, Coteroyd Drive, Little Lane, Little Lane Court, Oakroyd Terrace, Wood View and Wood View Terrace.
