Councillor’s concern over Morley fire station day crew plan
Coun Neil Dawson.
Morley South Labour councillor Neil Dawson has joined with the town’s firefighters, MP Ed Balls and other Morley councillors to question the West Yorkshire Fire Authority (WYFRS) on its proposal to downgrade Morley Fire station to the day crew system.
Coun Dawson, the Community Safety Champion for the Morley area, said: “There is concern the proposed move to a day crew system at Morley fire station will mean a two tier level of response in the Morley area.
“The current level of response times will be maintained during the day they will be extended by upto five minutes after 6pm
“I believe the immediate financial position of the fire authority is better than was thought previously and there is an opportunity to have take another look at the current proposals and I welcome the continuing talks with the local fire chief”.
The day crew system will see the fire station left unmanned overnight.
In an emergency situation firefighters - who would be required to live no more than five minutes away, would be called in from home
