Cross Hall’s history to be explored at open afternoon
HISTORY enthusiasts will have a rare opportunity to learn a little more about one of Morley’s old halls at an open afternoon this Friday.
Cross Hall which dates back to the early 1700s was once the home of John Wesley, the man largely credited with founding the Methodist movement, and also of Mary Bosanquet who in the early 1770s became the first woman preacher in that church.
The brick building has since been converted into flats for the over 55s and is managed by the Places for People housing association which has organised the event.
Housing services manager John McKay said: “Cross Hall has a fascinating history and it’s a pleasure for us to support residents in learning more about its past while celebrating a fantastic future for all the residents who now live here”.
Staff from Places for People and local historians together with residents will be attending the celebration in the grounds from 12 – 3pm on Friday.
Members of the community have also been invited to attend and learn more about this important local building and the people who inhabited it.
