CSI Bruntcliffe solve the mystery of who shot Pudsey Bear
PRIMARY pupils are being given a taste of secondary school science lessons at Bruntcliffe School.
Year six pupils from Bruntcliffe’s feeder schools have been invited in to gain practical laboratory experience and open their eyes to how exciting the sciences can be.
The programme includes everything from CSI style forensic examinations to find out who shot Pudsey Bear to practical experiments using electricity and chemicals.
Assistant headteacher Ryan Hirst said the aim was to support the primary science curriculum while encouraging children to take up science when they move to high school.
He added: “It has been a great start to the year and very well received by the young scientists.
“Each session is filled with enthusiasm, awe and wonder.“
The programme was designed by Bruntcliffe STEM coordinator Katie Jordan in collaboration with science coordinators from Birchfield and Churwell.
Jane Hayes from Birchfield said: “It was a brilliant experience for my Year 6 children as they used labs and equipment not normally available to them.
“They loved every minute of the science CSI type investigation which was skilfully delivered by the science staff. We are all looking forward to the next visit which supports the childrens learning and adds to the curriculum.”
