Deadline looming for Gelderd Road development objections

OBJECTORS to the proposed industrial and commercial development in Gildersome have just one more week to lodge their complaints.

It is believed by objectors that the planners Marshall cdp Ltd, will be submitting their final plan to the Plans Panel in the next few weeks.

Their plan includes building commercial and industrial units on 70 acres of land between Gelderd Avenue, Asquith Avenue and Nepshaw Lane for employment purposes including industrial units, warehouse and distribution units as well as a pub, restaurant and hotel.A car sales showroom along Gelderd Road is also being considered as part of the development proposals.

Coun Pat May said: “It is crucial that everyone who has written in the past at the present stage now writes to Leeds Planning Department.”

Fears are that the already congested roads will become even more chocked with the increase of traffic is just one concern by local residents.

They also worry about road safety, especially with two primary schools in the village, drainage, environmental impact and the lack of need for more industrial and warehouse units in an area that already has similar vacant units.

Coun Bob Gettings said that he is continuing to get strong objections to the proposed
development.

He said: “This piece of land is the only green space between Gildersome and the densely populated town of Morley.

“If localism is to mean anything then local voews must be taken into account.

“If we are to have a ‘child friendly city’ then the environment in which our children grow and develop is important.

“I strongly oppose this development personally and this is strongly objected by local residents.”
