Two Drighlington chefs have been honoured at one of the region’s biggest award ceremonies.
Kaushy Patel, founder of Prasah Indian vegetarian restaurant in Whitehall Road, and her daughter-in-law Minal Patel were named joints Chefs of the Year at the Yorkshire Life Food and Drink Awards at Rudding Park in Harrogate.
Minal Patel, who is head chef at Prashad, has aspirations to gain a Michelin Star and has been commended in numerous restaurant reviews.
They have also won support from their most famous fan, Gordon Ramsay.
Bobby Patel, son of Kaushy and husband of Minal, who oversees the day to day running of the Prashad empire, said everyone was “overwhelmed with pride” at their win.
“They are amongst excellent company on the line up of winners but they truly deserve their place there,” he said.
“It is our mission to be a leading Yorkshire foodie destination and educate connoisseurs on how tasty vegetarian cuisine can be.
“Kaushy and Minal are in awe of the awards judges and incredibly grateful to them for choosing them as their winners.”
Kaushy Patel said: “My grandma taught me to cook when I was growing up in Gujarat, India.
“The most valuable lesson that she taught me was to cook from the heart. If you put love and joy into your food it will taste better.
“Cooking is an art but it is also a pleasure and should be enjoyed.
“She also taught me that only the best quality, freshest ingredients will do and showed me how to infuse flavours to make sure that every single bite is a taste sensation.”
