A dual carriageway was engulfed in black smoke this afternoon during a tyre fire at a farm in Tingley.
Five fire engines were called out after 2pm today after a wagon caught fire on the farm in Dewsbury Road.
A spokeswoman for West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue said the fire then spread to a pile of nearby tyres.
Morley Fire Station’s watch commander Andy Ambler said: “It was very windy, and this was blowing the black smoke over the road.
“By the time we got there, the traffic had slowed down because the smoke was quite thick.”
He added the crew was there for around three hours. Three pumps were used to tackle the blaze.
An investigation into the fire is ongoing.
