EAST ARDSLEY: Detectives probe spiked drink ‘date rape’ claim
Latest news...
DETECTIVES are investigating claims that a woman had her drink spiked with a ‘date rape’ drug after she woke from a night out with injuries suggesting she had been assaulted.
The 21-year-old, who does not live locally, woke up in a house in East Ardsley. Nobody else was in the house but she had no idea how she got there.
She had been on a night out in Wakefield city centre on December 22 and says the last things she remembers is dancing with two men in Buzz bar on Westgate.
She then woke up in a strange house in East Ardsley with no recollection of what happened before making her way home.
Insp Paul Sullivan said the woman was distressed and called the police.
“She had injuries suggesting she had been assaulted and we are treating it very seriously and carrying out enquiries,” he said.
“These reports are quite rare and instances of rohypnol drugging, that can cause memory blackout, is extremely rare.
“When we do get these reports we look into all circumstances.”
Insp Sullivan said there was advice he could give to people in a bid to prevent this type of incident from happening.
He said: “Do not accept drinks from strangers, keep hold of the drink you have bought at all times and no not drink from a glass that has been left unattended or has been given to you - one you have not seen come from behind the bar.
“Another piece of advice is to stay with your friends and keep an eye out for each other.
“The best person to judge how much you can drink is yourself and if you do start to feel peculiar then seek medical attention.
“In this case there is a suggestion that someone has spiked this woman’s drink and drugged her.
“The matter is now being investigated by CID.”
